    It is here stated that the word is found only found only in Lev. xvi, in the legislation concerning the Day of Atonement. Whilst the meaning of the word is considered unclear many have assumed from the context of its use that it is a proper name, and may even refer to Satan. The name Azazel has also been transferred to the Book of Enoch to designate an evil power.
