What is Halakhah? What does Halakhah consist of? These are the chief questions considered here. It is stated that "At the heart of halakhah is the unchangeable 613 mitzvot…" These are the rules or commandments that indicate how a Jew should live, and all 613 may be accessed from this page.

By Jeremy K. Call, the subject of this paper is the creation of the Halakhah and its application in modern-day Israel. Besides the introduction and conclusion this paper consists in eight sections. The first three of these are: (i) Biblical Law; (ii) The Talmud; and (iii) The Responsa, "an indispensable source of the application of Jewish common law." Sections (iv) - (vi) discuss the place of secular and religious law in the modern Israeli State, whilst sections (vii) and (viii) consider the standing of the Halakhah in Israel today and its codification and future respectively.
